Thanks, Maraya! This is great. I'm scheduling it for tomorrow. We'll ping you when it's live.
Please send a short bio we can use for you.
Cheers,
Ken

Hey Ken,Here's the article!I cut out some parts and included a bit towards the end about how the task at hand is not only to create more festivals, but to build sustainable systems of living with each other and the planet. Rhizomatic networks of communities all culminating in the great turning towards Festival Earth.I also changed the line breaks into prose, which I think ultimately flows better.Feel free to cut anything else out or move things around. If there is anything else I can do, please, let me know!many thanks and much warmth, marayaOn Mon, Jul 29, 2013 at 8:29 PM, Ken Jordan <ken@evolver.net> wrote:Hi Maraya,
Glad you're up for preparing your article for Reality Sandwich! In general, RS articles are 1,500 - 2,500 words, but we're not strict about length. I think that dividing the piece into 3 sections is fine, if you want to keep that structure.
Look forward to seeing the finished revision.
cheers,
Ken

So great to meet you!!
I would definitely be up for making those edits and incorporating more about what comes next for festivals. How long do you think is an good length and do you feel that the three part division should be taken out entirely?
I'll get started right away and if you have any other feedback or suggestions I would love to hear them.
much warmth,
maraya

Maraya, great to meet you! I agree with Nick. Your post would make an excellent article for Reality Sandwich. Would you be up for editing the 3 parts into a single article, removing the repetitions (like Victor Turner's 3 points, which appears twice), etc? Also, you might consider including some of the feedback you've received from readers since the post first appeared, particularly regarding "what comes next" for festivals in order for them to grow and develop as you discuss.
Let me know what you think.
cheers,
Ken

I want to suggest a piece for Reality Sandwich called "The End of Festivals, the Beginning of Festival Earth" by Maraya Karena. I met Maraya last year in Evolver Boulder. She has both first-hard experience at a variety of transformational festivals, and also a background in cyborg anthropology focusing on rituals and rites of passage.
Maraya has posted the article as a public note on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/notes/maraya-karena/the-end-of- festivals-the-beginning-of-fes tival-earth/10151728403952884
It's a diversity voice in the buzzing festival season, for sure. It brings into question whether these events are achieving their said purpose, and looks for ways to do that more.
I'm CC'ing her in this message, in case the two of you haven't met. I'm sure she'd make a valuable contributor to RS.
I hope all is well on your end.
Warmly,
Nick--
